Timothy “Tim” Jones of Fontaine Street, Franklin, Virginia departed this life on May 24, 2012, while a patient in Southampton Memorial Hospital. He was born September 10, 1961 to Willie L. and Winnie A. Jones in Southampton County, Virginia.
After 21 years of service, Tim retired in 2009 from Union Camp Corporation. He was a member of New Refugee Bibleway Church. In 1980, he graduated from Southampton High School where he played football. Tim was known for his speed on and off the football field. He was an accomplished athlete who enjoyed weight lifting and took great pride in the results of his hard work.
Tim was preceded in death by his mother, one brother, Willie “Sonnyboy” Jones and sister, Bessie J. Cross. He is survived by his wife, Barbara A. Jones; daughters, Kimberly Pope, LaVonda Jones, Shavonica Benn; one son, Tamon Jones; sisters, Patricia Brown, Elsie Lawrence, Diane Faulk; brothers, Larry Jones (Mary), Donnell Jones, Anthony Jones; five grandchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and many cousins.
A homegoing celebration will be held on Thursday, May 31, 2012 at 2:00 PM, Apostolic Faith Church of God, 680 Oak Street, Franklin, Virginia with Reverend Ralphel Elliott delivering the message of comfort; Elder Ronnie Warren is pastor. The committal, benediction and military honors will be in Southview Cemetery. On the day of the service, Tim’s remains will rest in church for viewing by 12:00 Noon.
